DIRECTIONS: Directions: Take the 118/Ronald Reagan Freeway and exit Balboa Blvd. Turn north, driving 2 miles to Sesnon, turn left going west .6 mile, turn right at park entrance.  Follow signs to event parking.  Parking is limited. Carpooling is encouraged.  Also team tent drop off is best before racing starts and walk up from parking lot.  Be prepared to roll or carry your tent a couple hundred yards into the race venue.

THE COURSE: Race takes place in a beautiful suburban park shaded by trees. Uphill paved start/finish with rolling, twisty grass sections through a mix of grass, pavement, dirt and mulch.  The course will travel up and down the park picnic and dirt roads, there will be one double barrier set, and two challenging stairs section run ups!  The Super Swail Section is going to gets the riders skills. This is a great spectator course!  Each lap is approx. 2.5km in length.

Races are timed circuits on the course based on the leader of each race wave.  All races finish on the lap of the wave leader.

THE VENUE: O’Melveny Park is located above Granada Hills in the San Fernando Valley. The park surrounds the Bee Canyon watershed and abuts the Santa Susana mountain range below Oat Mountain. Hiking trails and fire roads invite exploration of this 672-acre park. Ouside of Griffith Park, O’Melveny Park is the city’s second largest park. Originally known as the “C.J. Ranch”, it was purchased in 1941 by attorney John O’Melveny of the respected large law firm O’Melveny and Meyers and used to grow citrus and graze cattle.

Race Day registration opens at 7:00am then 2 hours prior to each race wave start. Race registration closes 20 minutes prior to each wave start.

RULES: This is a USCX event permitted and sanctioned by North American Bicycle Racing Association.

All NABRA rules apply.  Event will be held rain or shine.  No refunds.  Bicycle and wheel changes are allowed in the designated pit areas only.  Helmets are required at all times while on the bike.  Water feeds are allowed during the race.  Cyclocross or hard tail mountain bikes are best for handling the course and obstacles.  Mountain Bike pedals and shoes are best or flat pedals with trail running shoes.  This event is held under NABRA Cycling Permit.  2014 NABRA rules apply.

Warming up on the Course Once the last rider has crossed the line in the current active wave, the race officials will allow riders to “pre-ride” the course to become familiar with route and obstacles. Please enter the course past the finish line and do not pass or enter in front of riders who are still racing on the course. As in the past, while pre-riding do not cross the finish line while the timing system is running and do not pass active racers on course. There will always be enough time to complete one lap before the next race starts.  Once the next race has started, warming up on the course is not allowed.

CATEGORIES: Senior (over 18 years of age as of 12.31.2015) and Masters categories may be listed by ability as well as age. Ability categories are as follows:

A (CX Cat 1-4) is the fastest group out there – also might be called expert, elite. Highly competitive – if you aren’t an experienced racer (in cyclocross or another discipline) this is likely not the group for you.

B (CX Cat 3-5) is the intermediate group – faster and more experienced than “C” riders but not at “A” pace yet.

C (CX Cat 4-5) is geared toward the beginner rider – new racers or first time cyclocrossers should usually start here and move to “B” when comfortable.

Masters is for riders with a racing age (on Dec 31, 2015) equal to or greater than the indicated age. Masters A (CX-1-4) is often the second fastest group on the course, just behind the A race. Basically “A”racers that are older and have family/career commitments.

Masters B (CX3-5) is generally a bit slower than B, as the average age is higher in the Masters group For new racers eligible to race masters, you might want to try both “C” and Masters B to see which you prefer.

SoCalCross discourages sandbagging. Please upgrade to the higher category when qualified.  PLEASE NOTE: USA Cycling does not recognize ABR or NABRA sanctioned events for CX category upgrades or USAC national ranking points.

CYCLOCROSS RACING AGE:  A rider’s racing age for the 2014-15 Cyclocross Season is the ‘racing age’ the year in which the CX World Championships take place which is February, 2015.  Basically your racing age for the entire cyclocross season running September 2014 through January 2015 is your age as of 12/31/2015.

RESULTS: Race results will be posted near the awards area immediately following each race. Please make sure to check your results within the 15-minute posting/protest period or they will be final. Online results at: www.SoCalCross.org/results
