Championships to be decided Sunday, January 6th.

After 17 events in the span of less than four months, it all comes down to this: the 2012-13 SoCalCross Prestige Series Finale. On Sunday, January 6th, season championships will be awarded in 22 categories at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.

This event carries considerable significance because it offers 50 percent bonus points compared to previous events, points that could be the difference between the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. A rider’s best nine scores during the season are counted toward the final standings, so you can be sure calculators will be smoking. In addition to bragging rights, winners will receive a prestigious Champion’s Jersey by Voler Team Apparel, custom SoCalCross awards and lots of sponsor swag. The Elite competitors will even be banging bars for a bonus cash purse.

Pierce College has been a fixture on the SoCal cyclocross circuit for the last decade, featuring epic cross-country running trails and a couple of gut-wrenching power climbs. The weather forecast is excellent, so it should be a fair, fast and fun setting for an event of this magnitude.

Speaking of running, the day will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5k Steeple Cross Run on the CX course. The Series Finale will start with a free cyclocross Beginner’s Clinic at 8:30, followed immediately by a First Timer race. Class championship points will be at stake from 9 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. There’s a class for everyone. Don’t have a CX bike? Rentals are available on a first-come/first-served basis, or with online registration, which closes at 11:59 p.m. Friday, January 4th. Race day registration opens at 7 a.m.

Along with pulse-pounding on-course action, there will be music, food, a race expo and much more to make it a fun day for everyone. And it’s all free for spectators!

It will be the perfect way to cap off the season or do a final tuneup for the following weekend’s National Championships in Madison, Wisconsin. The Prestige Series Finale will be the last opportunity to help send the The TEAM SoCalCross Junior and Under 23 riders to the Nationals, so come out and help support the future of the sport. For every $10 donation you’ll receive a chance to win an IRT Carbon Tubular Wheelset (value $1600). Any donation earns SoCalCross swag, including new SoCalCross socks by Sock Guy.

Special thanks for making this event possible goes to host club The TEAM SoCalCross; series sponsors SPY Optic, Voler Team Apparel, Shimano, Cardo Systems and Jenson USA; key race sponsors Art of Cross, H2O Overdrive, IRT (Intertia Racing Technology), Kool ‘n Fit Sport, Planet Bike, Pump Cold Brewed Coffee; and our advocacy sponsor AIDs Life Cycle (100% of the proceeds from the Steeple Cross Run will go to ALC). This is an American Bicycle Racing sanctioned event.
