Wrap up Round 6:Â Â SCPS 9/10 UCI CX MoVal Weekend! March Field Park – Moreno Valley
UCI CX MoVal made historic strides as SoCalCross partners with the City of Moreno Valley to build CX infrastructure at the former March Air Field!
The City’s Parks and Recreation staff worked closely with SoCalCross promoters Dorothy Wong and Jeff Herring stepping up the Series final location to be the new home for UCI CXLA. The vision was to create park space and implement bicycling park infrastructure. Funding came from Park and Health grants to create the CX skills course and look forward to building more for the SoCalCross Prestige Series final in December.
Sunny Southern California did not disappoint out of towners coming for warmer weather. Particpants came from across the USA with most UCI competitors comprised the Western States. UCI categories included Junior Men 17-18, U23 Men, Elite Women and Men. California’s best included National Champions Tobin Ortenblad and Lance Haidet both earning U23 titles. French National Champion and World CX Silver Medalist Caroline Mani came to play taking the win both days along with Tobin.
When asked about racing UCI in SoCal Ortenblad replied, “I’m always stoked to come down to race CXLA. Its on the West Coast and a fairly easy drive down from Santa Cruz. The weather is always beautiful and it’s always a low stress fun weekend. Since we were in So Cal the course was as I expected, pretty dry. Most of the turns were a bit slippery which definitely made a relatively flat dry course technical.
The competition was good both days, Driscoll put up a big fight both days and kept me super honest at the front. He’s such a diesel, you have to watch him coming from behind in the last couple laps of the race. I love coming down to SoCal cross because it’s a UCI race on the West Coast. I’m glad it keeps happening and I wish we had more of them! “
A follow up report will be sent out to the masses after the T-Day Holiday as well media report by USA Cycling. Stay tuned!
