2 days of racing brought over 500 racers to San Diego County this weekend. Many new faces came to play. Many accomplished athletes from other disciplines… triathlon and moto-x. Chris Horner was on hand to support his wife Megan. Steve Tilford came to play as he was in town on business. So many new faces to ‘cross it was fun to see the hecklers come out to Adams Avenue race at the velodrome while the day before the north eastern San Diego region brought almost a slightly different crowd. SoCalCrossers came for one day or both and were treated to two diversely similar courses with more dirt than the Series has seen to date. Cross is about the diversity and the challenge of the terrain, the technicality and the weather (no rain yet).
Saturday Ranchos Cycling, SPY-Blue hosted SPY-clocross benefiting the San Dieguito River Park in support of its bicycle trail system. As well the SPY bridge made its appearance along with a $1,500 elite cash purse! Sunday brought the SD cycling culture together in and around the velodrome at Balboa Park. Adams Avenue teamed up with Celo Pacific to host the Sunday event. Click on this link to video of velodrome start!
