SOCALCROSS HITS HALFWAY POINT IN THE SERIES FROM THE VINEYARDS TO THE SEA
Don’t miss this weekend’s SoCalCross action as the Southern California Prestige Series of Cyclocross hits the halfway point of the 2010 season! The Series will put to the test the outer lying regions to build their local communities by hosting races on the same weekend north and south of OC/LA. As the northern region looks to build momentum after San Luis Obispo Cross #1 at El Chorro Regional Park last weekend San Diego will see its first cross races of the season on Sunday – Halloween Day. If you are in San Diego for the weekend, Adams Ave will host a Saturday CX race at the San Diego Velodrome – not part of the series, but looks like fun times! Looking forward to more San Diego Cyclocross on December 4th, Saturday at Cal State University – San Marcos. Details coming soon!
Saturday SCPS #7 – Kalyra Winery Cyclocross hosted by 3lelte.com hits the Santa Inez Valley and the Winery for its first ever cross race. Muddy conditions are expected today as the rain hit steady overnight. Wine and BBQ on the menu after a muddy day of racing hopefully with some sunshine also on the menu. This race will likely showcase the northern region elites as World CX Masters medalist – Trina Baumsteiger (Rambuski Law) takes on the TEAM – SoCalCross’ Ryan sisters Kendall and Alexis. Look for Amanda Schaper (SDG) to be the spoiler in the elite women’s race. In the elite men’s race… Sid Taberlay is slated to take on the best in this region including SDG’s Anton Petrov and the TEAM – SoCalCross’ Eric Colton. It will be exciting to see who shows to represent this region and first time event.
Sunday – SoCalCross’ Storm the Beach hosted by 2009-10 SoCalCross Team of the year, Celo Pacific hits the shores of Oceanside, CA with Round 8 as racers take on the long dirt/mud? roads then onto the shoreline for a scene quite unique to the Prestige Series… cyclocross on the beach! Slated to race in the elite women’s race. Former Pro Roadie Megan Elliott (Black MTN) will look to defend her victory from 2009 as she takes on Series Leader and Pro MTBer Allison Mann (Rock N Road) while Peanut Butter and Co 2012’s Coryn Rivera and odds on favorite.  This course tends to favor the road rider with its long flat sections. We’ll see if the rain plays havoc to muddy things up!
In the elite men’s race is Team Radioshack’s Chris Horner to take on defending champion Brent Prenzlow. Both are beach boys but we’ll see if Prenzlow can take his 2209 season 100th win and undefeated streak at Storm for another victory at his host team’s event. Look for Sid Taberlay (Sho-Air) or the Rock N Road Gritters boys to be the spoilers Looking forward to the photos and race reports!
