PRESS RELEASE:

SLO CROSS 2018!

San Luis Obispo Cyclocross Race Weekend

San Luis Obispo, CA: Cyclocross racing is back in SLO for the annual SLO Cross! This year we are hosting the Southern California/Nevada Cycling Association (SCNCA) District Cyclocross Championships, and we are once again part of the SoCalCross Prestige Series (SCPS races 4/5). Bike racers and enthusiasts of all ages come out to this event, which will be held at El Chorro Regional Park on Saturday and Sunday, November 10–11. Enjoy the weekend of bike racing, beer, food, and fun activities. Racers and spectators welcome and encouraged. Bring your friends and family out for the entertainment of cyclocross racing.

It’s been said that our course is one of the toughest, albeit most fun, courses to ride. We take pride in making this a true cyclocross event. Past attendees have always enjoyed the gathering of the biking community during SLO Cross, and many return each year for more. SLO Cross is sponsored by several bike-friendly businesses, helping us make it the best event we can for everyone.

Cyclocross is a style of racing that involves varying terrain, obstacles, and multiple laps through the course within a set time frame, usually between 30–60 minutes. We also hold youth races and kiddie cross, and everyone truly has a blast. Racers come out to ride this course for sport and for fun. Beer handoffs and bacon fishing welcome!

  • Spectators make up a large part of the success of SLO Cross, and the crowds and enthusiasm make it a great time.
  • SLO Cross hosts a growing number of racers each year and each year is better than the last.
  • Saturday night happy hour is hosted in the beer garden with beverages available for purchase and complimentary snacks (did someone say mac n’ cheese!).

About SLO Nexus: SLO Nexus is a local-based organization dedicated to bringing together people who love to ride bikes, race bikes, and promote bike riding in our community. Since 2006, our fresh outlook on the local bike scene has incorporated support, fun, education, and fitness, and is designed to bring together the growing number of cycle-centric athletes throughout the Central Coast.

Course Map & Description:

Course is 1.6 miles in length. Mostly hard pack dirt and sandy sections as we race along the lakeside it will go up and down for short punchy climbs, some roller whoops in the camp and playground area.  There will be one double barrier section and stairs.  Some construction dirt may create loose-lomi dirt and silt.  The Costume Race Course will be a shorter 1/4 mile loop the main area and campground.

**Sealant is always good at most SoCalCross courses due to topography of the region.  Goat heads and misc debris can be mixed into the course at any point you might find it.  We’ll do our best to clear the way!

The final layout will be created by Jeff Herring Art & SoCalCross Crew!  Check out Day One Course Pre-Ride:

Season Kick – Off Calimesa CX Classic

SoCalCross season opener cyclocross racing at the former Calimesa Golf Course

SoCalCross Prestige Series starts Sunday 10/21!

Hosted by Team Redlands don’t miss Calimesa CX Classic at the Calimesa Country Club!

The cyclocross season is upon us and we are excited to announce that Team Redlands will be a part of the 2018-19 SoCalCross Prestige Series race calendar with the inaugural Calimesa CX Classic as the season opener! This is going to be a fantastic race on a killer course and should be a fun time for all. I have been riding in and around Redlands for the past 10 years and as long as I can remember people have asked “why isn’t there a cyclocross race here?” The idea has ebbed and waned for a long time and has almost happened a couple times. This is why we are so stoked to be hosting this event on October 21st at the Calimesa County Club.  As the president of Team Redlands, it is my goal to make cycling more accessible to our local population and to help people experience the joy of riding and racing their bikes.

The first Calimesa CX race is going to be an annual Cyclocross Classic thusly named will give you the unique experience of racing on a golf course. What that translates to is a fast, smooth course with several natural features including punchy climbs, three sand traps, a run-up, and over 150 feet of climbing per lap. In keeping with the golf theme, the winners will get to wear “podium jackets” and will receive trophies and awards unlike those from any other cycling race. Our goal with this event is to create a fun, family friendly, atmosphere that can be enjoyed by everyone.

The people at Calimesa Country Club have been awesome to work with and they are happy to be our partners in this venture. Since they are no longer utilizing the golf course for golf, they were very interested in alternative uses for the land. They are currently rebranding themselves as an event center and will be providing a limited selection of food and a full bar for purchase during this event. So, come on out and enjoy a great day of racing at an amazing venue! – Eric, Race Director – Team Redlands
